Green Policy

Berforts Group Ltd formed a new 'Green Team' in 2007 to steer the company through the ever-growing legislation affecting environmental issues. Berforts Group Ltd Ltd is currently working towards attaining the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard, which monitors how a company is run and covers areas such as prevention of pollution and compliance with environmental regulation.

The company has already been awarded Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody certification. The FSC accredits independent third-party organisations who can certify forest managers and forest product producers to FSC standards and promotes the use of paper from well managed sources.

As far as is practicable, Berforts Group Ltd Ltd ensures that products and materials bought in from suppliers comply with current environmental legislation. Key members of staff are being re-trained on an ongoing basis to understand the requirements of the evolving legislation.

As digital, short-run printers, Berforts Group Ltd Ltd is already well-placed to make a significant contribution to reducing pollution and damaging the environment, using less paper and chemicals. The following highlights some of the initiatives and benefits:
* Paper is sourced from a supplier with Chain of Custody certification such as the Forest Stewardship Council or the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification, to ensure the paper comes from managed sources
* Digital print tends to be a more environmentally-friendly production method. It eliminates waste as there is no need to print extra packs, or to print stock (with letterheads, for example) that is then reprinted. Digital ink is easier to extract in the recycling process as it is absorbed less by the paper than in traditional methods
* Use adhesives which are water based - not only are these greener to produce, but if a spillage were to occur, they can be cleaned up with water and not solvent. Envelope windows can sometimes be eliminated, but if required, should be made of pulp or vegetable starch
* A printer that can also act as a mailing house can reduce the need to minimise transport-related pollution by shipping materials between locations. Berforts Group Ltd Ltd can offer a one-stop shop to maximise benefits to the customer and the environment
